Today, Disney announced a big change to Rise of the Resistance in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Beginning Nov. 3, 2020, you’ll still have two opportunities to grab a spot in the virtual queue but the first one of the day is drastically changing. Here’s the scoop on the update and how to score a boarding group without having to be inside the park.
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance Boarding Groups
Previously, Rise of the Resistance offered two chances to lock down a boarding group, one at 10am and another at 2pm. Additionally, for both groups you had to be inside Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
And while this was working when the ride first opened, with physical distancing and park opening time changes, it was a kind of a mess. Guests in the park at rope drop were all vying for the same spot at the same time and oftentimes this led to a lag on the in-park wifi.
So, to alleviate the issues, Walt Disney World has offered a new way to score a boarding pass for Rise of the Resistance.
First, you’ll need valid theme park admission or annual pass AND a theme park reservation for Disney’s Hollywood Studios – that hasn’t changed. What has changed is the fact that, starting at 7am, guests that have park admission and reservation may check for an available boarding group.
For the 2pm virtual queue opportunity, you’ll still need to be in the park.
So, make sure you already have the My Disney Experience app downloaded and you’re logged into your account ahead of time. Another tip is to no be on wifi as guests inside the park will all be accessing it at the same time.
Rise of the Resistance Boarding Groups Maximizing
Also announced, the number of boarding groups will be increasing. Recently added are clear barriers between the two rows of seats on each First Order Fleet Transport vehicle. So, instead of only a single party in each vehicle, more may be allowed.
Of course, you’ll still need to wear a mask during the entire ride and in the actual queue.
